Dear Mr. Ahearn,
On behalf of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater
Boston, I would like to thank you for the generous gift of
$3,500. from The Paul J. Ahearn Memorial Fund to our Chapter.
All of us at Make-A-Wish greatly appreciate your decision to direct
funds in Paul's memory to our Foundation. As you requested, this
gift will help to fund a sports- related wish for one of our special
wish children. We hope that you will be happy to learn about
Michael's wish, which will come true in loving memory of your
brother, Paul.
Thirteen-year-old Michael of Nantucket is a sweet
and outgoing boy who has been diagnosed with chronic renal
failure. In his free time, Michael enjoys spending time with his
friends, listening to music and watching and participating in all
kinds of sports, especially baseball and basketball. When our
Make-A-Wish volunteers recently met with Michael to discover his
wish, he described in colorful detail his desire to meet his
idol and favorite basketball player,
Vince Carter of the Toronto Raptors. Thanks to the
diligent work of his wish volunteers along with the aid of the
Make-A-Wish Foundation of Toronto, Michael will soon meet Mr. Carter
in person. He is scheduled to travel to Toronto with his family
members where they will attend a Raptors team practice before taking
their seats at the Air Canada Center to watching an exciting NBA game
featuring the Toronto Raptors versus his hometown team the Boston
Celtics! After the game, Michael and his family will have the
opportunity to meet with Mr. Carter in person. Michael is
looking forward to asking his hero questions, posing for photographs
with him and, of course, requesting lots of autographs! While in
Toronto, Michael and his family will also visit many of the local
tourist attractions including the International
Hockey Hall of Fame. According to his wish
team, Michael is anxiously counting the days until he leaves for
his wish trip!
As you know, the Make-A-Wish Foundation is dedicated
to granting the favorite wishes of children diagnosed with
life-threatening illnesses. A wish fulfilled gives joy to a
child and his or her family during a time when they need it
most. A wish provides a child something
positive to focus on as they continue fighting their illness and
provides the entire wish family with long-lasting memories.
Since 1987, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Boston has fulfilled
over 975 wishes for children in Eastern Massachusetts diagnosed with
life-threatening illnesses. These wishes are made possible with
the help of our dedicated volunteers and by the generosity of our
supporters like you.
Mr. Ahearn, thank you again for your generosity on
behalf of our wish children. Please accept the enclosed gift as
a small token of our great appreciation for your generosity. We hope
that you feel great joy in knowing that your contribution will help
fulfill a wish for Michael in loving memory of Paul.
Sincerely

Dear Bob, Britt & Ahearn Family,
On
behalf of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Boston, we would like
to share our heartfelt thanks for your support of our Chapter and the
families we serve. Your tremendous gift of $5,000,
representing proceeds from the Paul J. Ahearn
Memorial Golf Tournament held on July 10,
2000, has been instrumental to our Chapter's success. We admire
the positive and life affirming way in which you have chosen to
remember Paul, by granting a child with the same love of sports his
fondest wish. We are happy to share with you the special child
who has benefited because of your generosity.
Joey R. is an energetic, fun
loving twelve-year-old boy who lives in Carver. Joey has been
diagnosed with ALL, a form of leukemia. Despite his illness,
Joey remains a positive kid who loves all sports. He enjoys
playing all kinds of games and sports with his brother and sister.
He especially loves fishing, baseball and football. When visited
by his Make-A-Wish volunteers, Joey was very enthusiastic about his
wish. He explained he wanted to meet his very favorite athlete -
Jerry Rice of the San Francisco 49'ers! He went on to say that
meeting his hero would be exciting for his whole family too!
Because of your generosity, Joey's wish came true late last year.
Joey and his family were escorted by limousine (their first!) to Logan
Airport where their exciting journey began. While in San
Francisco Joey and his family stayed at a beautiful hotel in which
their room had been stocked with special treats. During their
vacation, Joey and his family were treated to many local sights and
attractions - their favorite being Bubba Gump's Shrimp Restaurant and
San Francisco Aquarium. Of course, the highlight of the trip was
the day spent with the 49'ers. Joey and his family were invited
to a 49'ers practice where they met all the players and after which
Joey had the opportunity to spend some quality time with his sports
hero. Jerry Rice was delighted with a t-shirt Joey presented to
him saying "I met Joey R. - November 2000"! Joey also
received many gifts and souvenirs from Jerry and the team and was
thrilled to receive tickets to a 49'ers game during his family's
vacation. Best of all Joey's wish experience afforded his family
the opportunity to share fun and carefree time together - something
they had not been able to do for some time.
We hope you feel great joy in knowing that your efforts, in Paul's
memory, have such an incredible impact on Joey and his family.
We are thrilled to hear that plans are underway for the 2001 Paul J.
Ahearn Memorial Golf Tournament to be held on September 7th.
We greatly appreciate your continued support and look forward to
helping you, in any way we can, as you plan your event.
Sincerely,
Charlotte Beattie
